KUWARESMA

"Kuwaresma" is the 40 day period observed by Christians as they prepare for Easter. 

In the Philippines, this yearly ritual can be witnessed in the arid rice fields in Pampanga. As penance for their sins, Filipino men flagellate themselves on Good Friday. This ritual culminates with a re-enactment of Jesus Christ's resurrection.
